601 Chapter 3:Processes and procedures • Section 1: Acting on reported changes (07/2026) Employed children turning age 18 When an employed child on a SNAP case turns 18, the earned income of a child is counted in the budget month after the individual’s 18th birthday. TANF When a TANF participant obtains employment, their anticipated income will be addressed. ODHS determines anticipated income by receiving the following reported information: • Employment Start Date • How many hours the participant is scheduled to work per week • The participant’s hourly rate of pay • The date of the participant’s first paycheck • Actual/Anticipated income in initial month when pay is received • Actual/Anticipated hours to be worked in initial month when pay is received Using this information, ODHS is able to calculate the individual’s ongoing anticipated income. If their income places them over the TANF exit limit, their case will close with timely notice. The worker will create a new employment/income record in ONE and the system will determine eligibility and send appropriate notices. When changes are reported, verification of income is required if TANF remains open or if other programs need the verification. The reported change in income is added to ONE and benefits will be reduced with a timely reduction notice. If any of the above information is not reported, ODHS will send a Missing Information Pend to obtain this information, due within 10 days. If the Oregonian reports their employment before the 15th of the month, the worker needs to be sure to enter the information into ONE as soon as possible. This could cause an overpayment for the Oregonian if they report before the 15th and the information is not entered until after the 15th. ERDC Reporting income increases, decreases or a change in work hours during the certification period is not required for ERDC cases unless the household income goes over the ERDC ongoing income limit. Click here for Income limits. Decrease in income When there is a decrease in income reported by the caretaker, ODHS takes the following steps: • Determine if the change is anticipated to continue. • If yes, ODHS|OHA sends a Request for Information (RFI) to request verification of income
If the caretaker does not respond to the notice, no action is taken on the case.
Once verification is received, ODHS|OHA updates the income record on the case which may change the copay amount and also updates the SNAP dependent care deduction in the expense record.
