IV. CHILD CARE PROGRAM OPERATION Child Care Market Rate Survey 2023 Page | 23
2. Impact on Children Table 12 shows the number of children enrolled in facilities that were potentially affected by various economic conditions. Almost three fourth of children were enrolled in facilities that saw an increase in their food budget and over half were enrolled in facilities that saw an increase in staff salaries and purchase of equipment, materials, and services. Table 12. Children Enrolled in Child Care Facilities by Change in Ability to Provide Quality Child Care as a Result of Economic Change for All Facilities: 2023. Centers that served more than 60 percent of the children reported an increase in their food budget and purchases of equipment/materials/services. Similar pattern can be seen among homes. Homes that served 85.6 percent of children saw an increase in food budget. About 70 percent of children were enrolled in homes that saw an increase in purchases of equipment, materials, and services. However, significant disparities can be seen in the areas of staff salaries and number of qualified teachers. About 68 percent of children were served by centers who saw an increase in staff salaries, contrasting with 77.1 percent of children in homes where staff salaries remained unchanged. Additionally, 23.5 percent of children were enrolled in centers which reported an increase in the number of qualified teachers while only 4.7 percent of children enrolled in homes were impacted by the increase in the number of qualified teachers.
