6.3.1 Temporary Changes
Temporary changes in a family’s participation in work, training, or education may not impact a child’s eligibility during the eligibility period. A temporary change is defined as: • Any time-limited absence from work for an employed parent(s) or guardian(s) due to the need to care for a family member with a serious illness or health condition or to care for one’s health condition or illness; • Any time-limited absence from work due to the birth or adoption of a child or caring for a newly fostered child; • Any interruption in work for a seasonal worker who is not working between regular industry work seasons; • Any student holiday or break, including over the summer, for a parent(s) or guardian(s) attending a job training or education program; • Any reduction in work, training, or education hours, as long as the parent(s) or guardian(s) is still employed or enrolled in job training or education; or • Any other cessation of work or attendance at a training or education program that does not exceed 90 calendar days. In the cases of temporary changes in a parent(s) or guardian(s)’s work or educational activity, a child will remain eligible for child care subsidies through the end of the 12-month eligibility period.
