Catholic Charities of WV Phone Number: (304) 650-6221 The local Social Service Coordinator or Supervisor is to be notified simultaneously with Catholic Charities of West Virginia whenever a serious problem, such as child abuse/neglect or the need for foster care, exists. While these and other emergency situations will require the expertise of the Department's Office of Children and Adult Services staff, they may also require the involvement of CCWVA. Most refugees/asylees have a very limited understanding of the English language and our culture and may need someone to translate for them. The language interpreting service currently in contract with DoHS should be utilized first; however, in a situation that a rare language in which a service cannot be provided, the local office should contact CCWVA, directly. 15.8.11 REFERRALS TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION 15.8.11.A INTRODUCTION There are several instances in which the DoHS is required to refer a non-citizen individual to the Social Security Administration. This section refers to non-citizens who have status or are treated with such status that is considered eligible for a benefit which requires registration with employment services or Work Force WV, as well as individuals potentially eligible for SSI. When a referral is made, evidence of the referral must be documented in electronic storage. The HS-3, Inter-Agency Referral Form is utilized for this purpose. It is preferable to have comments noting the referral in the case as well.
Note: Case maintenance must include contacting the client as a follow-up to ensure a determination was made on any submitted applications by the SSA. If the non-citizen faces a challenge in any processes involved with the referral, including language barriers, the local DoHS office must refer the individual to the current organization contracted with the DoHS to provide Refugee Support Services for assistance.
