204 This requirement only applies to the first time a household is certified following the loss of eligibility for substantial lottery and gambling winnings.
If the composition of the household changes, that household would no longer exist, and any remaining members would be considered as a new household if they choose to apply for SNAP benefits. An individual who chooses to reapply for SNAP benefits, alone or as a member of an existing household, would be considered a distinct household from the household that had substantial lottery or gambling winnings. The new household would not have to meet the regaining eligibility requirement. (2) Substantial Winnings
Substantial lottery or gambling winnings are defined as a cash prize equal to or greater than the maximum allowable financial resource limit (Appendix 2: Chapter 10 Resource) for elderly or disabled households won in a single game before taxes or other withholdings. For the purposes of this provision, the resource limit applies to all households, including non-elderly/disabled households, with substantial lottery and gambling winnings. If multiple individuals shared in the purchase of a ticket, hand, or similar bet, then only the portion of the winnings allocated to the member of the SNAP household would be counted in the eligibility determination.
The value of substantial winnings will be adjusted annually.
