1293 (07/2026) Chapter 8: Examples • Chapter 8: Examples Example 1: The end certification date is July 31. The participant reported a job loss on May 5; the worker added the employment termination information which granted AWS through Aug. (One month past end certification date). The participant reports on Aug. 20 they are employed. A new application will need to be completed because the recertification is due. If the participant received the recertification application in June and returned it to the office, that application can be used. If new job verification was not received, an RFI would be sent requesting income verification, hours and work schedule and anything else needed. The ERDC interview must be completed. Generally, this is done prior to the pend notice but can be completed after pended items are received. The new certification period starts Sept. 1, if the participant meets all eligibility requirements. ERDC When a job loss, lay off, or break in work is reported late Example 1: The permanent job loss occurred in April, but was not reported until June. July is the start of the AWS period. AWS will continue until they report returning to work or school, or the end of their certification, whichever is sooner. The copay is waived during the AWS period. ERDC Two parent families and AWS coding Example 1: Parent 1 is employed. Parent 2 reported timely on May 5 they are no longer working. After further discussion with Parent 2, the worker determines the reason for their loss of employment and enters the job loss and good cause information into ONE. AWS is approved because any reason for Parent 2’s job loss is considered a ‘good cause’ reason for ERDC. Parent 2 reports on June 26 they have new employment and they are working more hours than the previous job. The worker enters the new employment information in the system and an RFI goes out requesting verification of work hours and work schedule. The verification comes in showing more work hours for the parent, but less of an overlap in work hours. The worker updates the caretaker schedule in ONE for Parent 2. Hours are not reduced during the certification. • Remind the parents they must report income at or above the ongoing ERDC income limit;
