1268 (07/2026) Chapter 8: Examples • Chapter 8: Examples $65 Earned Income Deduction $3980 - $65 = $3915 ½ Remaining Earned Income $3915 / 2 = $1957.50 EIEs, IRWEs, BWEs $1957.50 - $1000 = Total Adjusted Earned Income $957.50 Jo’s adjusted income is below the EPD adjusted income standard. Jo is eligible for EPD. EPD Participant Fee Calculation: Jo’s unearned income is $1000. Earned income is $5000, but we would exclude the $1000 in business expenses, which are excluded under OAR 461-145-0920. This leaves a total of $4000 in countable earned income. $1000 + $4000 = $5000 Monthly Countable Income Monthly Participant Fee Under $805 $0 $805 - $1,073.99 $50 $1,074 - $2,683.99 $100 $2,684 and above $150
According to the chart, Jo will owe $150 per month as an EPD participant fee. OSIPM Failure to pay the participant fee Example 1: On February 1, a worker finds that Moana did not pay the $100 participant fee in January and overrides EPD to terminated in ONE effective February 28. Example 2: Javier received notice that his EPD would be closed on February 28th due to failure to pay the participant fee. Javier calls on February 20 to request that EPD benefits stay open. The worker reopens the case and reminds Javier that the participant fee must be paid each month (including February) to avoid termination of EPD benefits. If Javier does not pay the participant fee in February, close the case once again in March. Example 3: A worker finds in February that Mushu did not pay the participant fee in June, September, and December of last year and case notes do not indicate any hardship waivers were granted. No further action is needed as Mushu is current on the most recent participant fee payments and non-payment of participation fees was not discovered timely.
