16 Waterford Institute Pilot Program This initiative enables high-needs, low-income families to close the achievement gap by empowering parents and caregivers as their child’s first teacher right in the home. The program helps children develop foundational academic and cognitive skills using personalized, adaptive, interactive software. The program focuses on eligible children in their individual family homes and Family Child Care Type A & Type B home providers serving children through the publicly funded childcare program. This program is reasonably expected to achieve outcomes under TANF purpose one and three because the program aims to provide parents guidance, training and ongoing coaching to help parents engage more intentionally in their child’s learning to develop school readiness. Additionally, research shows at risk children who start kindergarten without basic skills are 40% more likely to become teen parents. The program provides the basic skills to prepare them for success in school.
