The NJ FamilyCare Outreach Worker Training Manual is designed to complement the state’s training programs for government and non-government organizations and serve as a reference tool for trained outreach workers, as well as a train-the- trainer or self-instructing manual for new employees or those who may not be able to attend the one-day training. The manual includes a summary of the NJ FamilyCare eligibility guidelines, information on application completion, outreach tips and important contact information. Also, sample outreach materials can be found in the pockets, along with an order form for requesting more copies. By assisting outreach workers, this resource guide makes the application process easier and more accessible for families, and eventually improves children’s access to health insurance coverage.
Scholastic Inc. Magazine: The state partners with Scholastic Marketing Partners to produce health-based curricula for the schools with the NJ FamilyCare logo prominently displayed. For the school year 2002-2003, three different sets of materials were provided for grades K-3, 4-6, and 6-8, stressing the importance of good nutrition, fitness, safety, and preventative care. In addition, for the older grades, there was a lesson on the comparison of annual NJ FamilyCare costs a non-insured versus an insured person. The content was age- appropriate and included: lesson plans that meet the state’s core curriculum standards, creative homework assignments requiring parent participation, and posters for the teachers to display. All of the take home materials contained NJ FamilyCare contact information.
Media: NJ FamilyCare has used a variety of media outlets to inform the targeted public. The Governor has promoted the availability of NJ FamilyCare through paid radio advertisements during the annual “Back to School” campaign.
In addition, NJ FamilyCare is in partnership with NJN (the New Jersey public television network). A 15-second spot promoting health insurance for children aired throughout the year around “PBS Kids” and “NJEA Classroom Close-up” programming. In addition, NJ FamilyCare ran a 60 second spot, with participation from our Governor, on 30 radio stations throughout the state, in both English and Spanish, with the message “Don’t think you make too much to qualify. Families qualify every day who never imagined they’d be eligible.”
Gannett Publishers, which includes seven newspapers across the state (Courier Post, Vineland Daily Journal, Asbury Park Press, Home News Tribune, Daily Record, and the Courier News), promotes “Kids Health” and spotlights the availability of NJ FamilyCare.
