7. RECOVERY METHODS AND PROCEDURES:

A. Payments can be made in the form of SNAP benefits or U.S. currency. Checks, money orders, and credit/debit card payments to Treasurer, State of Maine are accepted.

B. Households are encouraged to repay any claim by a lump sum payment. The household is not, however, expected to liquidate their resources.

C. If the household is not able to pay the entire amount at one time, it is encouraged to repay through installment payments or allotment reduction. SNAP benefits may be used as full or partial payment of any installment.

D. If the household misses a scheduled installment, a notice shall be sent. Renegotiation can be done at any time.

E. If payments are not being made on an outstanding debt, the Department may implore the assistance of other agencies including but not limited the Treasury Offset Program (with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service) and the Maine Revenue Service.
