3 of 3 Consider the client's request for assistance as a "new" application if cash benefits were not received in Louisiana by anyone in the assistance unit in the month prior to the effective month of certification, except for those clients who did not receive cash due to the $10 minimum payment.

If the client is found eligible after this pretest, determine benefit level by subtracting the standard deduction, dependent care deduction, and the $900 time-limited deduction if the client has not previously been allowed the $900 for 6 months.

If the client has not missed a month of benefits, the pretest is not required and all applicable deductions will be allowed when determining both eligibility and benefit level.

NOTE: A person whose application is being taken for inclusion in an existing FITAP case is not subject to the pretest requirement.
