Division/Section Family Support Chapter No./Name 4 – Economic Stability (ES) Part No./Name B - Eligibility Factors (FITAP) Section No./Name B-1700-FITAP Time Limited Benefits Document No./Name B-1740-FITAP Time-Limit Extensions Effective Date January 1, 2023
7 of 8 B-1744-FITAP - PR EXTENSION REASONS
Among other factors as discussed in B-1720-FITAP, section B-1723-FITAP and B-1730-FITAP, section B-1733-FITAP, a clear rationale must exist for an extension to be recommended. The following circumstances may justify a time-limit extension:
***
Loss of Job/No Fault (T3)
The individual loses his job as a result of factors not related to his job performance. ***
Hardship (T5)
Other hardships have occurred which affect the individual’s ability to obtain employment. These hardship extensions are limited to the period of time the condition or situation is expected to last.
Examples of such hardships include:
a) when a parent/caretaker relative is under treatment for a serious addiction and work force participation is not recommended by the treating organization, or
b) when adequate child care or transportation is not available, or
c) a temporary family crisis such as death of a family member, eviction, serious illness or accident has occurred, or
d) domestic violence situations, or
e) when a parent is required to provide full-time care to an incapacitated or disabled member of the household, or
f) incapacity of the parent or other caretaker relative for purposes of applying the 60-month limit.
Pending Appeal (T6)
The case remains eligible pending a decision by the DCFS Bureau of Appeals.
NOTE: This reason does not require approval as a basis of extension.
