Each FITAP client who is a parent or other caretaker relative (or the spouse of a parent or other caretaker relative) included in the assistance unit may receive cash assistance for a total of 60 months in a lifetime unless the criteria to be granted an extension is met as described in B-1740- FITAP.

B-1731-FITAP - PO COUNTING THE 60 MONTHS

In determining months which count toward the 60-month time-limit, * LITE counts ** all months in which:

● the parent or other caretaker relative, or the spouse of the parent or other caretaker relative, has received TANF cash benefits in any state, including those months when no benefits are paid because of the "less than $10 deficit rule", and

● the parent or other caretaker relative, or the spouse of the parent or other caretaker relative, is included in the assistance unit.

B-1733-FITAP - PO 60-MONTH TRANSITION

In the fifty-eighth month, during normal case * maintenance ** activities, assess the client’s family to determine the need for continuation of benefits. The assessment should occur by asking questions about the family’s situation to determine if there are extenuating circumstances that might warrant an extension. The worker must not create the perception that an extension is automatic.

The DCFS worker and supervisor *** will jointly determine if an extension should be granted for * ineligible cases. ** ***

The 24/60 Month Time Limit Tracking report * tracks ** all cases approaching the fifty-eighth month.

II. PROCEDURES

When a client states they have received TANF benefits from another state, verify with the state the number of months and the dates benefits were received. Notify the * ES Supervisor ** to add these months to the * FITAP Time Clock screen in LITE **.
