B-1477-1-SNAP – PR ABAWD Reports Now Meeting the ABAWD Work Requirement or Becomes a Non-ABAWD
If a household reports that an ABAWD is not subject to the SNAP time limit or becomes a non- ABAWD, the worker must request verification of the change allowing 10 days to provide the verification. The change must be verified before action may be taken. Due to Simplified Reporting, if verification is not provided, no further action must be taken. The case must not be closed for failure to provide verification.
If the household reports the birth of a baby and there is another household member who is an ABAWD and is currently excluded from the case, the ABAWD becomes a non-ABAWD. Due to Simplified Reporting, no additional questions need to be asked about the member who became a non-ABAWD. Once the newborn is added to the case, eligibility must be run again and the case must be authorized. The household member will be included back in the case and their ABAWD Indicator status will be updated to No.
EXAMPLE: The SNAP household consists of an ABAWD and his pregnant sister. The ABAWD is excluded. The household reports the birth of his sister’s baby. When the baby is added to the SNAP case, the ABAWD becomes a non-ABAWD.
