[Handle expedited services applications made by Supplemental Security Income (SSI) households who apply through SSA as follows:
A. The SSA office has the following responsibilities:
1. Prescreen all applications for expedited services on the day the application is received at the SSA office.
2. Mark "Expedited Processing" on the first page of the application if eligible for expedited services.
3. Inform households that appear to meet expedited criteria that they may be issued a few days sooner if the household applies directly at their local Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) office.
4. Inform the household that it may take a referral form and the application from SSA to the appropriate DCBS office for screening, interviewing, and processing of the application.
5. Forward the application to the local DCBS office the same day.
6. Verify information to the extent possible and indicate verification received on the transmittal memorandum. The DCBS worker requests any additional verification necessary.
B. The local office has the following responsibilities:
1. Prescreen all applications received from SSA for possible expedited services on the day the application is received at the DCBS office.
2. Make the final determination of eligibility for expedited services. All SSI households entitled to expedited services are certified per normal procedures, except that the expedited processing time standard begins on the date the application is received at the DCBS office rather than the SSA office.
3. Provide benefits to expedited households retroactive to the day the application was received by the SSA office.]
