Volume 2 - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) MS 6707 – R. 5/1/26 – OMTL – 694 Simplified Reporting – Acting on Changes
[Use the following procedures to act on all changes reported to the agency, regardless of how they are reported.
A. Act on all changes in the SNAP case when they are reported directly to the agency by the household. This includes all programs.
B. If a household reports a change in income, and the new circumstance is expected to continue for at least one month beyond the month in which the change is reported, act on the change in accordance with policy outlined in MS 6750 and MS 6760.
C. If a household member moves from one household into another household, or becomes a separate household, remove the member from the first household to avoid duplicate participation.
D. Act on changes reported from any source, such as, but not limited to, the following:
1. The household; 2. A “Hotline” referral; 3. Other matches, such as the quarterly wage data match, prisoner match, and batch matches; or 4. When a household member receives substantial lottery or gambling winnings.
E. When a change is reported, enter the change on the system. A Request for Information (RFI) will be issued to verify the change, if necessary. When the requested verification is returned, enter the verification, and allow the system to process the change. If the verification is not returned, the system will act on the change in accordance with MS 6750 and MS 6760, as appropriate.
If enough information is not provided to enter the change on the system, and the household cannot be reached by telephone, click the “Unclear Information” button on the Case Summary screen to send an RFI requesting the individual contact the agency to verify information received by a third party or provide verification needed to process the change. Document the case thoroughly to explain why the Unclear Information button was used and what was requested on the RFI. Allow the household 10 days from the date the RFI is mailed to contact the agency or to provide the verification. If no contact is made and mandatory verification is not returned within 10 days, households with more than one or two members will automatically be discontinued or denied due to non-cooperation, and a Notice of Adverse Action will be mailed to the household. Households with one or two members will not discontinue; however, their monthly SNAP allotment will be reduced to the minimum monthly amount until their next recertification.
