Volume 2 - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) MS 6520 – R. 7/15/26 – OMTL – 702 Verification Time Standards at Recertification
For recertifications, the household must provide mandatory verification as follows:
A. [If a household submits a timely application for recertification, it has until the last business day of the month the recertification is due to provide the requested mandatory verification. Optional verification is not required.
B. If a household files a timely application for recertification but fails to return the requested mandatory verification by the end of the certification period, the case will be discontinued. If the requested mandatory verification is returned within 30 days following the end of the certification period, the case is reactivated as an application, and benefits are prorated from the date the requested mandatory verification is provided. The household does not have to reapply.
Example: An application for recertification is filed on April 10th and pends for mandatory verification. The household has until April 30th to complete the required action. The case discontinues on the evening of April 30th. The requested mandatory verification to process the case was received on May 6th. The application filed on April 10th is reactivated with benefits prorated from May 6th, and the household does not have to reapply.
C. If a household files an untimely application for recertification and fails to return the requested mandatory verification within 30 days, the case is discontinued. If the requested mandatory verification is provided within 30 days of the date of discontinuance, the case is reactivated as an application, and benefits are prorated from the date the requested action was completed and received. The household does not have to reapply.
Example: An application for recertification is filed untimely on April 20th and pends for mandatory verification from the household. The household has until May 20th to complete the required action. The case discontinued the evening of May 20th. The mandatory verification was provided on May 29th. The application for recertification filed on April 20th is reactivated as an application with benefits prorated from May 29th. The household does not have to reapply.]
Note: When optional verification has been received, but mandatory verification is still missing, do not reactivate the case until all mandatory verification is received.
