1610.50.00 PREGNANT HOOSIER WHOSE INCOME INCREASES When a pregnant individual receives an increase in income, their Medicaid eligibility must continue without change.14 They shall remain eligible in the same category regardless of an income increase. If a pregnant individual is enrolled in another mandatory category (i.e., MASI) or covered under a waiver, they can remain in that category as long as they meet eligibility requirements. Pregnant Individuals who lose eligibility from a mandatory category should transition to MAMA or MAGP through the end of their post-partum period.
The income that the member has when they report the pregnancy determines if the member will go into MAMA or MAGP. Once the pregnancy coverage is open the category will not change until after the post-partum period ends with the exceptions of voluntary withdrawal, death, or moved out of state. 15
Exception: If a member’s Medicaid is set to close for a reported change other than death, moving out of Indiana, or voluntary withdrawal; but before the effective date of the closure DFR discovers that the person is pregnant; eligibility should be re-evaluated for a potential rescission of the closure.
Note: Effective 4/1/22, members eligible for full coverage Medicaid/CHIP while pregnant receive continuous post-partum coverage for 12 months beginning the last day of pregnancy through the end of the month in which the 12-month period ends.16 1620.00.00 HOOSIER HEALTHWISE (MED 3) Medical coverage is available to certain parents/caretakers, infants, and children, former foster children ages 18 to 26 who were enrolled in Medicaid (any state) on their 18th birthday, and pregnant women under the Hoosier Healthwise Program.
