ESA SNAP Policy Manual 227 Screen the application for expedited service; if found eligible for expedited service, the recertification must be processed in accordance with expedited service provisions (see Section 7.2, Expedited Processing). If determined eligible, provide prorated benefits from the date the recertification application was submitted. Example 1 Mr. Roberts’ certification period for SNAP expired on March 31. He submitted his application for recertification on April 7. He completed his interview and provided proof of his income on April 11 and was determined to be eligible for benefits. Because he submitted his application for recertification within 30 days of the date his SNAP benefits were terminated, ESA treats the application as a recertification and provides prorated benefits from April 7 (date of application).
Example 2 Ms. Sander’s certification period for SNAP expired on March 31. She submitted her application for recertification on May 4. She completed her interview and provided proof of her income on May 8 and was determined to be eligible for benefits. Because she submitted her application for recertification beyond 30 days after the end of the certification period, the application must be processed as an initial application.
17.4.3.5 Household Submits Application for Recertification 31 Days or Later After the End of the Certification Period ESA must process the application as an initial application.
