SCREENING FOR WORK REGISTRATION State agency eligibility staff must screen for federal exemptions from work registration, per 7 CFR 273.7(a). Describe how the State agency screens applicants to determine if they are work registrants. During the application process, county eligibility workers screen individuals for work registrant status and exemptions by reviewing the application materials, existing case file information, and asking pointed questions during the interview. This occurs at every recertification and when processing changes that impact an individual’s work status. Eligible workers then enter work registrant status and any applicable exemptions on the Work Requirements screen in CBMS. If there is incomplete or unclear information, clarification is requested to determine work registrant status and any potential exemptions. How does the State agency work register non-exempt individuals? Individuals are registered for work by signing the SNAP application and recertification. Once eligibility workers screen for work registrant exemptions, they data enter those exemptions (or the lack thereof) on the Work Requirements page in CBMS. Individuals with the status of “No Exemption” under the work registrant section are coded as non-exempt work registrants in CBMS.
