Report most sales and other capital transactions and calculate capital gain or loss on Form 8949, Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital Assets , then summarize capital gains and deductible capital losses on Schedule D (Form 1040) . If Schedule D does not apply, check the appropriate box on line 7b of the Form 1040.
