West Virginia WIC Policy & Procedure 1.25 Effective Date: 01/01/00 1.25 Racial Classification POLICY: The Local Agency will have the applicant/participant “self-determine” race during certification. PROCEDURE: A. Self -Determination of Race 1. Each applicant or participant must be asked to self-identify race during a certification appointment. B. Documentation of Race 1. Staff may choose to verbally ask applicant/participant directly to classify race. 2. Staff may choose to have applicant/participant write down racial classification. Note: Local Agency may develop a short form that lists racial classifications so the participant may document his/her race. 1 of 1
