Child Care Subsidy Policy October 1, 2024 34 C. Ages of the client’s children. D. Type of Program/Degree being pursued by the client and whether course work is completed during class time (such as with trade schools) or if the student is expected to complete course work outside of class. 4.5.2. Scholarship Requirements. Child care can also be granted for educational activities required to maintain scholarship eligibility, provided that participation in the required activity prevents direct supervision of children. A. Example 1: A student attending college on a volleyball scholarship would be unable to supervise their children while attending mandatory practices and games. Child care time can be granted to participate in this activity. B. Example 2: A student attending college on an educational scholarship is required to walk for 45 minutes, three times per week as a course requirement. Child care cannot be approved for this activity since the parent could take the children along and complete the walk requirement. 4.5.3. Satisfactory Progress and Attendance. 4.5.3.1. At the time of Status Check, adult parents who attend educational activities or training must provide documentation of satisfactory progress and attendance for the most recent program enrollment. (For college students, this is demonstrated by maintaining a 2.0 grade point average.) If an alternative grading rubric is used, the adult learner must maintain an average or above rating based upon the program’s assessment tool. 4.5.3.2. Adult learners who fail to maintain an average or above average rating, or whose progress report reflects withdrawals (W – WP -WF) and/or incompletes (I) in more than half of the registered courses shall be given an improvement period for one semester upon provision of a letter from the educational program confirming the adult learner continues to attend scheduled classes. 4.5.3.3. A copy of the learner’s progress report will document compliance. All learners will need to submit statements from the educational or training program that documents attendance and progress as satisfactory. 4.5.3.4. Failure to Improve - If the adult learner fails to meet the requirements stated in 4.5.3.2. within the designated improvement period, the case shall be closed for one regular semester, if the only qualifying activity is education. Clients participating in qualifying activities shall have their hours and days on the certificates reduced to cover only the qualifying activity. For example, see chart below:
