2100.8.1 Status of Shelters

Shelters for battered persons are exempt from Institution rules.

Shelters for battered persons are public or private nonprofit residential facilities providing temporary housing for battered persons. If the shelter serves other people, a portion of the shelter must be set aside on a long-term basis to serve only battered persons.

If the shelter’s status as a facility isn’t known, email the Agency of Human Services-Economic Services Division-Assistant Operations (AHS-ESD-AOPS). AOPS will determine if the shelter is eligible. Exception : If the shelter is authorized by FNS to redeem as a wholesaler, it is an eligible facility. No further inquiry is needed.
