I. Policy:

At least four nutrition education contacts shall be offered during each certification period to all adult participants and parents / legal guardians / caretaker of children and all infants enrolled under six months of age. At least two nutrition education contacts shall be offered by a child’s first birthday to all parents / legal guardians / caretaker of infants enrolled older than six months of age. At least four nutrition education contacts shall be offered to all breastfeeding participants during each certification period.

II. Procedure(s):

A. Emphasize the benefits of nutrition education and encourage the participant, parent / legal guardian or caretaker to attend and participate in nutrition education activities.

B. Offer nutrition education activities directly to children, if possible.

C. If the participant, parent / legal guardian or caretaker refuses to receive nutrition education, document the refusal in the participant’s record.

D. Supplemental food shall not be withheld from participants who refuse nutrition education.
