Financial Programs

Adoptive parents whose adoptive child receives Federal, or State, or Local government Special Needs Adoption Assistance may be included or excluded from the family's FEP assistance based on what is most beneficial for the family.

The child is included in the assistance unit if the income and resources of the adoptee do not reduce the family's Financial assistance payment (this includes the Adoption Assistance).

The child is excluded from the family's assistance unit if the child's income and resources would cause the family's Financial assistance payment to be reduced.

If the adopted child receiving this type of assistance is the only dependent child, the parent or specified relative may still receive a FEP assistance payment which does not include the child providing all other eligibility requirements are met. Duty of Support requirements would not apply to that child.
