SNAP
There are two parts to the requirement for Social Security Numbers (SSN):
All customers who receive assistance must submit their correct SSNs or apply for SSN cards. This is true when they first apply or request to add a person to their case.
For Expedited Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) - Customers who qualify for expedited SNAP may receive the first allotment before they apply for or provide their correct SSN. They must submit their correct SSN or apply for the SSN card before the next allotment is issued. See policy 775 for complete Expedited SNAP policy.
After the customer provides a correct SSN, it must be verified. The policy regarding verification of SSNs is in policy 720-6 .
If the household is unable to provide proof of application for an SSN for a newborn, the household must provide the SSN or proof of application at its next review or within 6 months following the month the baby is born, whichever is later.
If the household is unable to provide an SSN or proof of application for an SSN at its next review or within 6 months following the baby's birth whichever is later, it should be determined if good cause exists. See policy 217-1C .
