26 (6) Live-in attendants
A live-in attendant may participate as a separate household. Persons described in 2.2 Special Household Requirements: (1) Required household combinations must not be considered live-in attendants. (7) Temporary absence
A person who is temporarily absent from the SNAP household, that has been certified to receive SNAP benefits, will be considered as living with the household. A person’s absence is temporary if all of the following are true:
• the person’s location is known; • the person was included in the certified SNAP case before the absence; • there is a definite plan for return; and • the person is expected to return before the next SNAP certification period begins (36- month, 24-month, interim contact, annual, six-month or tri-annual).
EXCEPTION: If the person leaves the SNAP household near the end of the certification period, “the absence is temporary” if the return date is expected to occur within 30 days of the new certification period. Example: Certification period is January – June. The person temporarily leaves the home in June but is expected to return by July 31. Include the person in the SNAP household because the absence is temporary.
NOTE: This policy does not apply to applicant households. At application, unless separate residency has been established at different addresses, the households which are specified in Section 2.2 (1) Special Household Requirements (Required household combinations) must be considered as living together. (8) Joint physical custody
If a child(ren) under joint physical custody spends an equal amount of time in each household, include the child(ren) in the household that applies first. If both households apply for or are receiving SNAP benefits, they both have to agree on which household to include the child(ren). The child(ren) is/are not to be included in either household until both custodians agree on which household to include the child(ren).
When the child(ren) began to reside in the second home, that household may apply for benefits or report a change that the child(ren) currently resides in the household to have the child(ren) added.
