WORK EXPERIENCE COMPONENT: APPRENTICESHIP Description of the component. Provide a summary of the activities and services. Apprenticeship provides a combination of on-the-job training and related instruction in which individuals learn the practical and theoretical aspects of a skilled occupation, which does not include subsidized wages. Programs are competitive and include an application process and committee approval. Apprenticeship programs can be sponsored by individual employers, joint employers, and labor groups, and/or employer associations. Apprenticeships are strongly recommended to be certified by the Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI). Apprenticeship programs are generally two to four years long and usually result in a journey level certification.
