82 Chapter 1: Introduction to the Oregon Programs Eligibility Notebook • Section 4: Glossary and acronyms (07/2026) SSB Social Security Benefits Individuals who worked and paid taxes into the Social Security system can receive monthly benefits when they retire or if they become disabled (see SSDI below). Dependent children and spouses can receive benefits based on the individual's reported earnings. Surviving spouses and children can collect benefits when the individual dies. SSD Social Security Disability Social Security Disability can also be referred to as Social Security Disability Insurance. Social Security Disability Insurance is one of the largest Federal programs that provides assistance to people with disabilities. SSD pays benefits to recipients and certain members of their family if the recipient is "insured," meaning that the recipient worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes. SSDI Social Security Disability Income Monthly benefits paid to individuals with either severe impairments that will prevent one from doing "substantial" work for a year or more, or a condition that is expected to result in death per Social Security Administration. Recipients must have paid enough Social Security taxes while they were working to receive a benefit. SSI Supplemental Security Income A federal income program administered by the SSA and funded by general tax revenues (not an individual's Social Security taxes). SSI provides support for aged, blind, and disabled people who have limited income and resources to meet basic needs. SSN Social Security number A unique nine-digit number issued to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and temporary (working) residents under section 205(c)(2) of the Social Security Act. The number is issued to an individual by the Social Security Administration. Standard ERDC An ERDC eligibility pathway for families who must meet all program requirements. This includes having a verified child care need—such as working, attending school, or being on approved medical leave—and meeting both initial and ongoing/exit income limits. This pathway follows full federal requirements under the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) and state requirements under Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR). SUP Support Legacy system acronym meaning child support paid by an obligor and/or child support received by obligee. TA-DVS Temporary Assistance for Domestic Violence Survivors The program provides temporary financial help to support families whose safety is at risk due to domestic violence. Most often this is when the domestic violence survivor and the children are fleeing domestic violence or at risk of returning to an abusive situation. The program can help with up to $3200.00 over a 90-day certification period. Payments are usually given directly to the landlord or other service provider. Tax dependent Has the meaning given the term “dependent” under section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code, as an individual for whom another individual claims a deduction for a personal exemption under section 151 of the Internal Revenue Code for a taxable year.
