612 Chapter 3:Processes and procedures • Section 1: Acting on reported changes (07/2026) • Expected period of time off work. Caring for a Child in the ERDC EDG Parents and caretakers will now be able to access AML when they are on medical leave to care for a sick child in the ERDC EDG. A new question will be added to the Temporary Leave section of the Earned Income Employment Details screen in ONE asking if the parent or caretaker is on leave from employment due to caring for a sick child. A drop-down menu will populate with all children under age 19 in the ERDC EDG and will also have the option to select “Non-household member”. When a child in the EDG group is selected the case will be evaluated for AML. Income received during medical leave Income is still counted during medical leave. However, families have a waived copay during this period automatically applied by the ONE system. Remind the caretaker of the reporting requirements; they must report when they return to work and if their income exceeds the exit income limit. If they do not report they have returned to work, ERDC will remain open and the copay will revert back to the previous copay amount, prior to going on AML. AML can be extended if medical leave goes beyond the anticipated time period. Additional verification will be required; maternity/paternity leave extending beyond three months must be verified. Medical leave beyond the end certification date Medical leave date can be approved up to three months beyond the end certification date. If the caretaker has not returned to work by the third month after the end certification date, the case will automatically close with a system-generated close notice. Extending AML If the caretaker reports they are unable to return to work, ODHS|OHA will request verification and extend medical leave if it is received. Medical leave cannot be extended more than three months beyond the certification period. If the caretaker does not respond to the RFI, no action is taken. The case will remain open and the copay will revert to the previous copay amount the end of the AML period. Two Caretakers and medical leave The same process applies to a one-caretaker and two-caretaker families. Returning to work after AML When the caretaker reports they are returning to work, the caretaker’s previous income prior to medical leave will be used to re-establish their copay amount. If their income has reduced ongoing beyond medical leave, verification is needed to process a lower copay amount. If their income has increased above the ongoing and exit income limits, the case should be closed with timely notice.
