When adding a newborn child born in an Oregon hospital to a case, proof of birth or Social Security number is not required. Click here for Social Security number (SSN). Removing a household member Removing a person from their TANF grant means either reducing or terminating the benefits of the benefit group. A timely continuing benefit decision notice is required except: • When a child is removed from the home because of a court decision or a voluntary placement in foster care by their caretaker relative, a basic decision notice is sent to close the child’s benefits only. Child Welfare cannot remove a child from the child’s home without a court order; therefore, a basic decision notice is sufficient when Child Welfare has custody of the child. ERDC Adding a household member When a caretaker moves into the home: • If the caretaker being added has income, their income is not used to calculate the ERDC copay. However, their income does count toward the ERDC exit income limit. If adding the income brings total gross household income up to or above the ERDC exit income limit, benefits will close with timely notice. • If the caretaker is not employed and is looking for work, they are added to the ERDC case and authorized work search (AWS) is applied to that caretaker. • If the caretaker is attending school, they are added to the ERDC case. Student eligibility will be evaluated for this caretaker, and if the family is receiving Standard ERDC, overlapping hours will be evaluated when determining child care hours. • If the caretaker is not working due to medical reasons, or caring for a sick child in the ERDC EDG, or maternity/paternity leave, AML will be reviewed. When a child moves into the home: • If the child being added has income, their income is not used to calculate the ERDC copay. However, their income does count toward the ERDC exit income limit. If adding the income brings total gross household income up to or above the ERDC exit income limit, benefits will close with timely notice. • If the child needs care, they are added to the case in the month the child is reported in the home. If the child will use the same provider as the other child, an email should be sent to DPU to reissue the billing form. • If the child does not need care, they are added to the case the month after the child is reported in the home.
