Support Services Support Services help individuals engage in their SNAP E&T case plan by covering the cost of essential items needed to participate in approved activities. Examples include, but are not limited to: • Transportation assistance, • Work‑related clothing, • Fees for certifications or identification documents, • Short‑term training costs, • Educational or training materials. STEP Providers select which support services they will offer from the allowable options, and availability varies by Provider. All support services must be reasonable, necessary, and directly tied to an approved SNAP E&T activity. Providers must consider lower‑cost alternatives and work with participants to identify resources that are reasonably available. To receive a support service payment, an individual must: • Be receiving SNAP. • Be eligible for STEP. • Have an approved case plan. • Be placed in an approved SNAP E&T service component. Providers may also establish additional criteria that participants must meet to access support services. ODHS Transportation Support for STEP and ABAWD Participants Each federal fiscal year (FFY), which runs from October 1 through September 30, Districts receive a transportation support allocation and accounting codes from the SNAP E&T policy team. These funds may only be used for individuals eligible for STEP or ABAWD and are intended solely to assist participants with transportation to and from their initial appointment with the Provider they are referred to. Districts must establish their own process for issuing transportation payments. Payments may be provided in person at a storefront office or by mail when participants cannot pick them up.
