432 (07/2026) Chapter 2:Eligibility • Section 6: Non-financial eligibility • Students in class for less than 12 hours a week will have 5 hours of study time added to their weekly hours calculation. • Students in class for 12 or more hours a week will have 10 hours of study time added to their weekly hours calculation. • In two-caretaker families in which both caretakers are students, ONE will authorize study hours based on the caretaker with the most class hours.
If both caretakers attend class 8 hours per week, ONE will authorize a total of 5 study hours. If one caretaker attends class 7 hours per week, and the second caretaker attends class 12 hours per week, ONE will authorize a total of 10 study hours. Requesting student hours during the certification period If the caretaker is requesting student hours during the certification, ODHS|OHA will need to request verification of current class schedule to determine how many student hours can be authorized. If the student is not receiving financial aid, you can search for the school on the FAFSA website: Federal School Code Search to determine if the school meets the federal student aid requirement. If unable to determine, ODHS|OHA sends a request for information (RFI) to the caretaker for verification. Termination of schooling If a caretaker reports they are no longer attending school or have completed their coursework, the information needs to be enter into ONE by ending the student schedule record and selecting the enrollment end date in the Education screen. Authorized child care hours are not reduced during the certification period. The caretaker may use the authorized hours for employment or to maintain the child(ren)’s spot at a child care facility. Authorized Work Search (AWS) will be granted for caretakers who report the termination of school attendance when there are no other valid schooling or employment records listed for the caretaker. Authorized Medical Leave (AML) does not apply to school records. Loss of employment If a caretaker has lost employment and remains a student, authorized child care hours are not reduced during the certification period. The non-working student may continue using the authorized child care hours for schooling or to maintain the child(ren)’s spot at a child care facility, even if new employment is not established. No longer attending school or working This applies to caretakers who report they have lost employment and are no longer going to school. When a caretaker reports loss of employment and termination of schooling, authorized child care hours are still not reduced during the Authorized Work Search (AWS), Authorized Medical Leave (AML) or Authorized Military Transition (AMT) periods. The ERDC copay will revert to the previous copay amount, prior to going on AML/AWS/AMT, at the end of these periods if new employment or schooling is not reported.
