TANF Families receiving TANF are categorically eligible for ERDC. With Categorical ERDC, TANF families can use their authorized hours to participate in the JOBS program. These hours help support parents and caretaker relatives in preparing for and engaging in JOBS plan activities. ERDC The Employment Related Day Care (ERDC) program helps cover the necessary child care hours for caretakers to perform their job duties, attend school, take Authorized Medical Leave (AML), or participate in qualifying activities and family well-being activities.
Once a family qualifies for child care through Standard ERDC, Categorical ERDC, or Expanded Child Welfare (EXP-CW), the number of allowable child care hours is determined based on the family’s eligibility type and verified need.
Standard ERDC: Hours are based on a verified child care need due to employment, school or Authorized Medical Leave (AML), using the highest number of verified hours from the qualifying activity.
Categorical ERDC: Hours are based on a verified child care need met through the receipt of TANF at the time of initial ERDC approval.
Expanded Child Welfare (EXP-CW): Hours are based on a verified child care need met through current or at-risk involvement with Child Protective Services at the time of initial ERDC approval. Nature of employment and child care need/hours for Standard ERDC The nature of employment is important when determining allowable child care hours. Whether ERDC can authorize child care hours depends on how the caretaker’s job is structured. If the caretaker’s job allows them to care for their child during work hours, ERDC cannot approve child care. For example, ERDC does not cover care for individuals who provide child care services in a home setting. However, ERDC may approve hours for caretakers who work from home or attend online classes if their schedule prevents them from caring for their child during those activities.
