Willis has been residing at Happy Home ALF since February 1, 2016 but wasn’t able to manage money. As a result, there is an outstanding balance of $12,000 for the three months Willis was a private- pay resident. The all-inclusive rate was $4,000 and it covered room, board, and ADL care. The facility administrator said there was no way to itemize for its private pay residents; therefore, $654 should be subtracted from the $4,000 rate for each of the three months. $12,000 - $654 - $654 - $654 = $10,038 total allowable costs. Willis agrees to make $500 payments to the ALF until it is paid off. $10,038 divided by $500 is 20.076. This means that a $500 medical cost should be applied for 20 months and $38 for the last month. Chapter 2, section 11: Medical Related Payments (MRPs) Accommodation allowance OSIPM Example 1: Temporary absence Pat is an OSIPM recipient whose income is $935.00 per month in SSB. Pat rents an apartment for $600.00 per month and pays for all utility costs. A homecare worker provides Pat with 50 hours of care per month. Pat has a stroke on April 29 and spends four days in the hospital followed by a nursing facility admission for physical therapy and occupational therapy. The doctor expects that Pat can go home after meeting certain therapeutic benchmarks and opines that these benchmarks will be met within 60-90 days of admission to the nursing facility. When the benchmarks are met, Pat will be physically able to return to the apartment and resume receiving care from the homecare worker. $600.00 Rent + $404.00 Limited Standard Utility Allowance = $1,004.00 accommodation allowance payment.
