1252 (07/2026) Chapter 8: Examples • Chapter 8: Examples Example 2: Julia and Juan provided verification of income, in which their highest verified overlapping work hours are 8 per week. This family will be approved for the part- time (20 hours per week, plus travel time) authorization of hours because their total overlapping weekly work hours fall between 1-20 hours per week. This is an example of part-time (PT) authorization of hours based on highest verified overlapping work hours. ERDC Determining child care hours for Categorical ERDC cases Example 1: Angie applies for TANF and ERDC for herself and her two children. At intake, she lets the worker know that she will be attending A&D treatment three days a week and volunteering at the local food bank twice a week. She is asking for full-time child care in order to complete these activities. Based on Angie’s statement of her child care need, the eligibility worker will authorize Categorical ERDC with a full-time allotment of 215 hours per month. The eligibility worker will email a completed electronic provider connection form to DPU to ensure the family is connected to their provider and a billing form is issued. Example 2: Dre is receiving Categorical ERDC for his son Javan. His case is authorized with a part-time allotment of 108 hours per month. On 8/15, Dre contacts his family coach and reports that he will be starting GED prep courses in September and will need more child care hours to study. The family coach gathers the information, documents Dre’s request, and enters a detailed case note describing why additional hours are needed. The family coach then creates a task to alert an eligibility worker so the request can be reviewed. The eligibility worker reviews the request, determines the correct number of hours based on Dre’s eligible need, and processes the change in ONE using the Child Care Additional Hours Request (Cat-El / EXP CW) screen. The eligibility worker documents the change in a case note, including the approval of a full-time allotment (215 hours per month) effective 9/1.
