1222 (07/2026) Chapter 8: Examples • Chapter 8: Examples Individual program example(s) SNAP Example 1: Leonard owns the “Science Is Fun” store. His sales have really gone down in the last year. His income currently is not what it used to be. When you talk to him you find that the last three months are pretty representative of the future. Use the last three months to anticipate ongoing. We would want to re-look at this income at ICR. OSIPM Periodic income Example 1: Maude applies for medical and services on 7/12/18. During the interview Maude reports that she receives $800 SSB and an annual payment of $1,200 in royalties from a cookbook published 10 years ago. Maude receives these payments each January. Calculate the countable income as follows beginning July: $800 SSB + $90 royalties ($1,200 ÷ 12 - $10 monthly earned income exclusion) = $890 Example 2: Harold requests OSIPM and service benefits on 8/20/18. During the interview, Harold reports that has $1,500 SSB. Harold also reports that his uncle died and left him some money from a family trust that he can use without restrictions. Per the terms of the trust, Harold will receive $600 each quarter beginning in October 2018. The countable income is calculated as follows: • August: $1,500 SSB • September: $1,500 SSB • October and ongoing: $1,500 SSB + $180 trust income ($600 ÷ 3 - $20 monthly exclusion) = $1,680 Example 3: Harold requests OSIPM and service benefits on 7/19/18. During the interview, Harold reports that has $1,500 SSB. Harold also reports that his uncle died and left him some money from a family trust that he can use without restrictions. Per the terms of the trust, Harold will receive $600 each quarter and that he received his first payment earlier that month. The countable income is calculated as follows: • July and ongoing: $1,500 SSB + $180 trust income ($600 ÷ 3 - $20 monthly exclusion) = $1,680
