1210 (07/2026) Chapter 8: Examples • Chapter 8: Examples ERDC Example 1: Grace applies for TANF at her local ODHS office. She has an intake with an eligibility worker who determines she meets all financial and non-financial eligibility for TANF for herself and her daughters, Andi and Alex. During the intake, Grace lets the worker know she has been struggling find a job, and that caring for two children under 5 has made even searching for a job difficult. The worker asks Grace is she is interested in child care assistance and explains that families who receive TANF are eligible for Categorical ERDC. Grace says she would like to request child care and they complete the interview. Grace and her daughters are eligible for 12-months of Categorical ERDC because they are approved to receive TANF benefits. Example 2: Jose applies for TANF and ERDC at his local ODHS office. The family is approved for TANF and Categorial ERDC with a certification period of March 2024 – February 2025. Jose gets a new job and TANF closes end of May 2024 as a result of exceeding the income limits for the TANF program. In July 2024, Jose reapplies for TANF because he was laid off and is reapproved for TANF with a certification period of July 2024 – June 2025. Categorical ERDC will not be extended again to align with the new TANF certification in this situation. The family’s Categorical ERDC certification will remain as March 2024 - February 2025. Example 3: Devyn is the legal guardian of his neighbor’s child, Andre. Devyn has a part-time job and is attending community college. He applies for both TANF and ERDC to help him with the costs of caring for Andre. During his intake, the worker explains to Devyn that he does not meet the eligibility criteria for TANF, as he is not related to Devyn. Since they are not eligible for TANF, they are not eligible for Categorical ERDC. After completing the intake, the worker denies the TANF and approves the case for Standard ERDC. Income limits Individual program example(s) TANF Example 1: Dorothy and Toto are in the office applying for TANF for themselves and their daughter Glenda. Toto is working and has a steady income of $10.00 an hour and works 20 hours per week: $10*20hrs*4.3=$860.00. Comparing the monthly earnings to the Countable Income Limit for a family of three ($616), the Oz family is OVI for TANF.
