TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF TANF Exceptions: • Individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may not receive cash benefits. • Individuals not requesting or receiving assistance but whose income is used in determining eligibility are requested to pursue benefits; however, no negative action is taken if they fail to cooperate. • If it would be unreasonable for a household member to apply for, or make income available for, maintenance and support, they may not be required to pursue the income. With supervisory approval, the following situations are deemed unreasonable.  The cost to pursue exceeds the potential income or causes financial hardship.  Pursuing the income would endanger the household member(s) health or safety.  Legal action is required but a private attorney or legal service refuses to accept the case. A reasonable effort to obtain legal assistance must be made and evidence provided. 710.1 Unemployment Insurance Benefits (toc) Individuals should only be referred for UIB when there is a reasonable certainty, they will be eligible for the benefit. If the customer’s potential eligibility is not reasonably clear, do not request them to apply for assistance. Refer individuals for UIB who: a. Are physically and mentally able to work, and b. Are out of work through no fault of their own, and c. Have reported earnings in at least two of the quarters within the Base Period. The Base Period is the period of employment prior to the loss of a job. Generally, the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters prior to the effective date of the claim for unemployment is the Base Period. The chart below shows the completed calendar quarters of a Base Period depending on the quarter in which a claim is filed with the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).
