14 | Early Childhood Education and Care Department VISIT THE CENTERS Bring Your Child: It’s important to see how your child interacts with the caregivers and the environment. What to Observe: • Cleanliness and safety of the environment. • How staff interacts with children—are they engaged, warm, and nurturing? • How children in the center seem—are they happy, occupied, and safe? • Are there age-appropriate toys and activities? • What is the overall atmosphere like—calm or chaotic? Follow-up Questions: • What is your illness policy? • How do you communicate with parents about the child’s day (daily reports, apps, etc.)? • Are meals/snacks provided, or do we bring them from home? This process will help you choose the best match for your child and your family’s needs. Once you’ve made your decision, talk to your child about the transition. If you feel confident, your child will sense your reassurance and feel more comfortable. Lastly, stay actively involved in your child’s care to ensure a smooth and positive experience.
