North Carolina Families Accessing Services through Technology (NC FAST) idenƟfies potenƟal SNAP recipients via the North Carolina State Data Exchange (SDX) match process. IdenƟfied individuals are automaƟcally mailed a DSS-6240 SNAP ApplicaƟon. A return envelope is mailed with every applicaƟon. SNAP applicaƟons are mailed between the 4th and 10th of each month. Individuals must be 65 or older by the fourth working day of each month in order to receive a SNAP applicaƟon. NOTE: If the FNS recipient does not meet the SNAP household concept requirements to be included in the SNAP program, NC FAST will not automaƟcally mail a DSS-6240 to the household. B. Applicants return completed applicaƟons to the local Department of Social Services. Completed applicaƟons may be mailed, hand delivered or faxed. If the iniƟal applicaƟon is not received and an applicaƟon keyed in NC FAST within 30 days, the individual will automaƟcally receive a second applicaƟon. C. Do not key the applicaƟon in NC FAST unless the applicaƟon has been signed by the individual or Authorized RepresentaƟve. Return applicaƟons received without a signature to the applicant along with a DSS-8650 NoƟce of InformaƟon Needed, requesƟng compleƟon of the applicaƟon. No further acƟon is required if the signed applicaƟon is not returned by the 30th day. D. Enter the applicaƟon in NC FAST if a signed applicaƟon is returned incomplete. Atempt to contact the individual by telephone if contact informaƟon is available. Send the DSS-8650 requesƟng the missing informaƟon if no contact can be made. Deny the applicaƟon only if separate household status cannot be determined by the 30th day. Approve the applicaƟon if the missing informaƟon is the shelter expense, date of birth, or heaƟng source informaƟon. Enter zero for shelter expense evidence and use date of birth from SDX.
