Volume 2 - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) MS 2600 – R. 6/15/26 – OMTL – 660 Basis for Treatment Center Participation
[For residents of Drug Addiction and Alcohol (DAA) treatment centers to be eligible to receive SNAP, the DAA center must meet the following criteria:
A. Have a Point of Sale (POS) system certified by the Food and Nutrition Administration (FNA). This is a requirement for for-profit centers, and optional, but recommended for non-profit centers. To determine if a center is an authorized retailer, contact FNS at 877-823-4369, or
B. Non-profit DAA centers may also meet one of the following criteria:
1. Be certified by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Facilities certified by the state as a DAA can be found in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities (DBHDID) Provider Directory. The list of certified DAA centers can be found by selecting “Substance Use Treatment”. To further narrow the list of results, select the county and/or service type.
2. Provide a certification letter from CHFS DBHDID. To obtain this letter, DAA centers must call The Adult Substance Use Treatment and Recovery Services Branch within DBHDID at (502) 564-4527. The facility must supply DBHDID with a list of services they provide to their residents to determine if the facility qualifies for certification. The letter is good indefinitely, and no subsequent review is conducted by DBHDID.
DAA Authorized Representatives applying on behalf of facility residents who are unable to provide proper documentation must understand that residents are not eligible to receive SNAP benefits until required documentation has been provided.
Please refer centers to (502) 564-4527 to determine eligibility as an allowable DAA facility.]
