Volume 2 - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP) MS 3630 – R. 8/1/10 – OMTL – 368 Good Cause Criteria
If a household member, based on religious grounds, refuses to provide a Social Security Number (SSN), the member has good cause for failing to comply. If the household member is unable to provide evidence, such as out-of-state birth records, which are necessary to complete form SS-5, the member has good cause for failing to comply as long as they are making a good faith effort to obtain the evidence.
For SNAP, good cause must be shown monthly in order for the household member to continue to participate. However, newborns may be certified up to six months without an SSN, before having to show good cause.
