Volume 2 - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

MS 3210 – R. 6/30/26 – OMTL – 680 Simplified Assistance for the Elderly (SAFE) Eligibility

A. [Individuals must meet the following criteria to be eligible for SAFE:

1. A resident of Kentucky;

2. Determined eligible to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI);

3. Age 60 or older;

4. Not living in an institution;

5. Purchasing and preparing food separately from other people living in the home; and

6. Be either:

a. Single, widowed, divorced, or separated (for one-person households); or

b. Married to an SSI spouse who meets criteria in 1 through 5 above (for two-person households).

B. Regular SNAP eligibility factors do not apply to SAFE cases.

C. Income and deductions are not considered when determining the SAFE allotment. Only shelter costs (rent or mortgage only) and household size are used to determine the allotment amount.]
