An ABAWD may choose to receive services from IMPACT at the time of interview, or any time thereafter by contacting the customer service number or reporting in person to a local office.
An individual between the ages of 18-64 (as of 7/4/2025) is not subject to time limited benefits if: • The individual is exempt from work registration requirement (refer to 2438.15.05) for a reason other than being age 60 or older; or • The individual is medically certified as physically or mentally unfit for employment (refer to 2438.15.05.20); or • The individual is responsible for the care of a child under age 14; or • The individual is pregnant (any trimester). Verification must be obtained before changing the ABAWD status. • The individual is “An Indian” as defined in paragraph (13) of section 4 of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (IHCIA); • The individual is “An Urban Indian” as defined in paragraph (28) of Section 4 of the IHCIA; and • The individual is “A California Indian” as described in section 809(a) of the IHCIA.
Individuals who are not classified as an ABAWD for one of the above reasons should be evaluated for the proper work registration classification.
Individuals considered as ABAWDs would not be subject to time limited benefits if residing in a county or city which has been approved as a waivered labor surplus area by Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). There are currently no such designations. This designation is only to be coded if directed by SNAP policy.
If an individual is not considered an ABAWD for any portion of a given month, that month is not considered towards time limited benefits.
EXAMPLE:
If an ABAWD individual turns age 65 in the month of June; then the individual would no longer be an ABAWD from June forward, this includes any prorated months.
