ESA SNAP Policy Manual 38 Chapter 5 Chapter 5. Verification Verification is the use of documentation or contact with a third party to confirm the accuracy of statements or information SNAP households provide. ESA must allow households at least 10 days to provide required verification. In general, ESA must have verification or proof that a household meets financial and nonfinancial eligibility requirements for ESA-administered programs. The specific items households are required to verify depend on the program the household is applying for, whether ESA obtained proof of these items in the past and whether the item being verified is likely to change over time. 5.1 Requesting Verification ESA must request verification from the household and provide at least 10 days for the household to provide the verification. ESA must provide the household with a Notice of Required Verification (see Section 16.2, Notice of Required Verification). If the household fails to provide all verification necessary for an eligibility determination, ESA must request the particular verification that is still missing and give the household at least 10 days to provide the specific missing verification. ESA must only request verification that is needed to determine financial and nonfinancial eligibility and optional deductions when verification is not already in the case file. Some verification documents can be used to verify multiple eligibility factors. For example, a rent receipt can verify monthly rent payments and residency if the receipt includes the address of the apartment.
