▪ Regional training: USDA WIC Breastfeeding Curriculum for all peers and WIC staff in addition to ongoing training for a new peer hired after the initial trainings area completed. ▪ CT-LLL Conference: If funding allows, and the agenda is appropriate for peer counselors, the State agency may consider supporting attendance at the annual CT- LLL Healthcare Provider Seminar. Training Overview
Continued focus will be on the implementation and sustainability of the Regional WIC Breastfeeding Curriculum training. The State IT Unit has developed pre-defined reports to enhance data retrieval and analysis from CT-WIC. These reports will allow local agency staff to provide outcome data in their bi-annual Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Reports. The State Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Coordinator and State WIC MIS Nutritionist will continue to provide targeted education to individual sites and provide guidance when the future enhancements are put into production of CT-WIC.
Breastfeeding Conference calls topics are selected based on need of CT-WIC operations, current breastfeeding initiatives in Connecticut, topics of current breastfeeding interest. Calls are used as a platform to discuss feedback from seminars and training. For several years now, the call schedule has changed to a monthly peer call facilitated by the State Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Coordinator. Once per quarter, Designated Breastfeeding Experts/Breastfeeding Coordinators and IBCLC join the peer call. Agenda and summaries about the call are emailed to Peer Counseling teams and their management.
