WORK EXPERIENCE COMPONENT: PRE-APPRENTICESHIP Description of the component. Provide a summary of the activities and services. EF adopts CDLE’s definition of pre-apprenticeship, which includes: (1) Have a clearly articulated relationship to one or more registered apprenticeships (2) Have an opportunity to enroll their graduates into a registered apprenticeship. In addition, Pre-apprenticeships must assist clients by helping them meet entry requirements (e.g. GED, assessment, certification), exposing them to an unfamiliar occupation, and/or building soft skills. Instruction can be provided by a community college, technical school, apprenticeship training school, or by the employer. EF POs will partner with training providers, apprenticeship providers, and employers in their area to develop internal business processes that identifies when clients are ready for WBLPA. Pre-apprenticeships range from 2-3 months with a minimum of 100 to a maximum of 400 hours per pre apprenticeship opportunity. Education partners collaborate with employers to develop curricula based on skills and knowledge needed by the apprentice. The instruction can be provided at the school, online, or at the work site. Pre-apprenticeship are sustained interaction with industry or community professionals in real-world settings to the extent practicable or simulated environments at an educational institution that foster in-depth, firsthand engagement with the tasks required in a given career field, that are aligned to curriculum and instruction. Pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships emphasize employer engagement, include specific training objectives, and lead to regular employment.
