HANDBOOK BEGINS HERE Example - A nonexempt individual fails to comply with the 20-hour work requirement during months two, three and four of the 36-month period and so is ineligible for food stamps. In month seven, the client obtains employment and works more than 80 hours during that month. At the beginning of month eight, the client loses the job. The client can receive food stamps for months eight, nine, and ten, regardless of whether the ABAWD work requirement is satisfied. Beginning with month eleven and for the remaining months of the 36-month period, the client can only receive food stamps for those months during which he is exempt from or in compliance with the ABAWD work requirement.
